Algal Turf Scrubber® systems can be configured for a wide range of water quality objectives, flow rates, site constraints, and implementation scales. ATS treatment units are modular, allowing systems to be designed for pilot-scale evaluation, phased implementation, or full-scale regional nutrient management.
Individual ATS treatment units can be designed as standardized modules sized to match site-specific flow and loading conditions. For larger projects, multiple modules can be combined into a single treatment facility, allowing treatment capacity to be expanded while maintaining operational flexibility.
Conceptual six-module ATS facility layout.
This modular approach allows ATS systems to be adapted to different applications, including stormwater treatment, surface-water restoration, agricultural runoff, wastewater polishing, and nutrient recovery. System layout, hydraulic loading, harvest frequency, solids handling, and downstream polishing components can be adjusted to reflect project-specific water quality goals and site conditions.
By combining scalable treatment modules with active biomass harvesting, ATS systems can provide reliable, cost-effective nutrient removal while reducing land requirements compared with many lower-rate passive treatment approaches.
