Applications

Managed aquatic plant systems, featuring Algal Turf Scrubber® technology, provide a scalable approach for nitrogen and phosphorus control in surface water, stormwater, agricultural runoff, and wastewater applications. In addition to nutrient removal, these systems may support recovery or isolation of selected trace metals, hydrocarbons, and other constituents found in some stormwater and wastewater streams.

hydromentia-applicationsApplications include large regional nutrient recovery systems, nonpoint source projects associated with agricultural and urban watersheds, point source treatment for domestic and agricultural wastewater, and restoration of degraded freshwater resources. HydroMentia’s managed aquatic plant systems can be configured to address a wide range of flow, loading, land availability, and water quality objectives.

Public agencies and regulated dischargers are increasingly required to meet stringent nutrient reduction goals, including Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) allocations and other water quality-based requirements. ATS-based systems can provide high nutrient removal performance while supporting cost-effective implementation, biomass recovery, and long-term operational flexibility.

For private and industrial applications, Algal Turf Scrubber® and Water Hyacinth Scrubber technologies can be used to treat selected wastewater streams containing nutrients, trace metals, hydrocarbons, or other recoverable constituents. Where appropriate, contaminants can be concentrated in harvested biomass, allowing the biomass to be removed from the water treatment process and managed through appropriate processing, reuse, or disposal pathways.
