Livestock Feed

hydromentia-livestock-feedLivestock feed is another effective end-use of harvested biomass produced in larger Algal Turf Scrubber® facilities, particularly in on-farm applications. Dried algal biomass tends to be higher in protein than alfalfa, often over 25% on a dry weight basis. A dried feed product would offer the benefit of long-term storage capability and a nationwide market.

Studies by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) and the University of Florida School of Veterinary Medicine have been conducted to confirm the product’s value as a feed ingredient. With a typical 25 mgd Algal Turf Scrubber® system producing approximately 200 dry tons of high quality livestock feed per year, the massive feed commodities market could easily accept all of the feed produced.
