BioHabitats and HydroMentia, Inc. to Study Algal Turf Scrubber® for Use in the Falls Lake, N.C. Watershed

February 27, 2013

Falls Lake, North Carolina (February 27, 2013) – The City of Durham, North Carolina awarded the team of BioHabitats and HydroMentia, Inc. a contract for a feasibility study on the Algal Turf Scrubber® (ATS™).  Falls Lake is a primary source of drinking water for Durham, Raleigh and surrounding cities. The study will evaluate the ability of the ATS™ technology to cost-effectively restore water quality to the 12,410 acre reservoir through reduction of nitrogen and phosphorus loads. The study will include design and site selection for a pilot test of the system under real world conditions.

HydroMentia’s Algal Turf Scrubber® has proven successful in removing excess nutrients in stormwater, wastewater, and industrial applications, as well as through the direct treatment of nutrient impaired surface waters.

Since the Algal Turf Scrubber® discharges water saturated with oxygen, it is a natural solution for lake restoration and enhancement.
